BUILDING A THERAPEUTIC BOND IS THE FIRST STEP IN YOUR RECOVERY
Pre-screening
Choosing a physician is similar to dating: there are many choices available, but it's important to find someone who is right for you. Before you become a patient at Lake Washington Sports & Spine, we first conduct a pre-screening telephone call to ensure that we are a good fit; we don’t want to waste your time or ours!
After establishing that we are a good match, our staff will schedule your initial (45-60 minute) consultation and email you new patient forms. These are very comprehensive (i.e. longer than what you probably expect) forms are designed to help our doctors provide you the best possible care and avoid missing any pertinent information.
Check-in
In order to optimize your time with Drs. Hyman or Chimes, we require you check-in 15 minutes prior to your scheduled appointment time. This "buffer" time allows our staff process your intake paperwork and gives you a chance to sit back, relax and enjoy a cup of coffee or tea in our waiting room. We find that patients have a better experience and have more cognitive bandwidth when they are not frazzled by arriving late.
First consultation
Your first date with us will be longer than normal and exceed your expectations! Our proprietary "getting to know you" process may feel like an interrogation, but it is extremely effective at cutting through the noise and quickly getting to the heart of the matter as it relates to your sports injury. The value of a thorough "first date" is the ability to reduce the time it takes to achieve your physical goal by avoiding misdiagnoses that can occur if the time isn't taken upfront to identify the true nature of your injury.
After we talk through your goals and complete the interview process, our sports medicine experts conduct a physical examination which may include a diagnostic ultrasound to confirm the appropriate next step in your treatment plan. The conclusion of your first encounter is the development of your personal road map for returning to physical activity.
